Q: What is BorrowPets.com?
A: Borrowpets.com is an online social community of pet lovers, where pet owners can find local people to care for their pets when they can't be with them.

Q: How do I join?
A: Simply click the signup button on the home page and fill in the fields. You will need a valid email address and phone number*

Q: How much does it cost to join?
A: BorrowPets.com is totally free to join and use, it’s free to add your pets and borrower status.

Q: When borrowing and lending pets should money exchange hands?
A: No. Borrow pets actively discourages this, members offering their service for money should be reported.

Q: How long does it take to sign up?
A: depends on how fast you can type, we’ve kept the process as simple as possible so should only take around 60 seconds.

Q: Why do I need to enter my email address and phone number?
A: We use these details to verify you and to keep you informed.

Q: What is the profile address on the sign up page?
A: This is your unique identification for our site, similar to a nickname.

Q: What if I cannot use the Profile address that I want?
A: Someone else may have already chosen that profile address, you will have to create another one.

Q: Do I have to agree to the terms and condition?
A: Yes. We have put together terms and conditions in order to keep our members as safe as possible while using BorrowPets.com.

Q: What do I write in the ‘about me’ section of the signup page?
A: You can write anything you like, it’s best to focus on information that others will find useful, e.g. your experience with pets.

Q: Can I edit the ‘about me’ information at a later date?
A: Yes, your information is accessible and editable via your profile page.

Q: Do I have to add my photo?
A: Other members prefer to see a genuine picture, this will greatly increase your chances of being contacted and having a successful BorrowPets.com experience.

Q: I haven’t received my verification email, what do I do?
A: First please check you junk folder / spam filter. If it’s not with you check you have entered the correct email address by starting the signup process again and re-entering your email address. If the signup page shows your email in use and you still haven’t got the verification email please contact us using the contact us form.

Q: I can’t remember my password, what do I do?
A: On the sign in page there is a link labelled ‘Forgot Password’, click this link and enter your email address. An email will be sent to you so you can reset your password.

Browsing and using BorrowPets.com

Q: How do I search for Pets?
A: Go to our Pets page, to filter through the pets click the ‘Find Pets’ on the top menu bar then use the filters to return your results. You can also search via our map feature using the ‘Location’ tab.

Q: How do I contact a pet owner?
A: Once you have found a pet, go into their profile and click the button ‘message owner’ located under the profile picture.

Q: I can’t find a pet to borrow in my area. Why is this?
A: We are a growing community, the best thing to do is let others know about BorrowPets.com, soon there will be a whole flock of pets to choose from.

Q: How do I add my pets?
A: go to the Pet’s page then click on the ‘Add New Pet’ tab on the top menu, then fill in you pets details.

Q: Can I limit who can see my Pets profile?
A: Yes, you can change the privacy settings at any time for who can View, Comment, Discuss, add Videos and Photo’s. For the best response we would encourage to keep the default setting in place, ‘All Registered Members’.

Q: Can I add multiple pictures to my pets Profile page?
A: Yes, when editing the pet profile you can add more pictures in the ‘Photos’ tab.

Q: How do I create a Borrower profile?
A: Go to the ‘Pet Borrower’ tab and select ‘Add New Borrower’ from the top menu, then fill in your details.

Q: How do I search for a Borrower?
A: Go to our Pet Borrower page, filter through the Borrowers by using the filters on the right had side of the page or use our map feature using the ‘Locations’ tab.

Q: How do I contact a Borrower?
A: Once you have found a Borrower, go into their profile and click the button ‘message owner’ located under the profile picture.

Q: I can’t find a borrower in my area. Why is this?

Q: How do I invite members to my dog walking group?
A: You can create a group for any regular meetings by visiting our ‘Group’ tab and selecting ‘Create new group’. Remember to add the town name and 1st part of the postcode along with the group name so other members can find your group.

Q: How do I let members know about an upcoming event?
A: You can create an event by visiting our ‘Events’ tab and selecting ‘Create new Event’. Remember to add the town name and 1st part of the postcode along with the event name so other members can find your event.

Q: What types of pets can I add to BorrowPets.com?
A: All pets are welcome except those that are considered to be dangerous or listed on a government dangerous animals list.

Q: Can I add multiple pets to my account?
A: Yes, simply go to the pets page and add another pet.

Your Profile

Q: Can I adjust the notifications settings?
A: Yes, click on the settings button in the top right hand corner, (it looks like a small cog) then click on the Notifications tab in the main menu. You can deselect any of the notifications you do not want to receive, when complete click save at the bottom of the page.

Q: Can I adjust the privacy setting for my profile?
A: Yes, click on the settings button in the top right hand corner, (it looks like a small cog) then click on the Privacy tab in the main menu. You can adjust your privacy setting based on your own preferences, when complete click save at the bottom of the page. There are more privacy setting for your personal information, click on the settings button in the top right hand corner, (it looks like a small cog) then click on the Privacy tab in the main menu. General safety

Q: Is there a minimum age for using BorrowPets.com
A: Yes, when lending and borrowing a pet we expect you to be over 18, under 18’s would need a consenting adult to do this on their behalf.

Q: Should I share my contact details with others?
A: We recommend that you do not give out your contact details online.

Q: Am I expected to lend my pet to anyone who asks?
A: No, we expect you will build relationships with many members, borrowers should not expect to look after your pet just for asking. Only let someone look after your pet when you are comfortable and happy to do so.

Q: I have a lot of experience with dogs and would like to let a borrowed dog off the lead, is this ok?
A: This is a question you would have to ask each pet owner, we would recommend that if you do not have written and signed permission you do not let a dog off the lead. The same rule should apply with any animal that could come into contact with a 3rd party. You can use our 'off lead permission' form located in our consent forms page.

Q: I’ve arranged for my pet to be borrowed but they are now sick, should I cancel my arrangement?
A: Yes, if your pet is unwell it’s best waiting until they are fully recovered.

Q: What information do I need to pass onto the borrower when they are looking after my pet?
A: As much as possible, including feeding, medication, exercise and any other important information. We recommend that you write this information down, you can use our Pet Information Sheet on our consent forms page.

Q: When borrowing a pet should they be insured?
A: Yes, we recommend that your pet is insured. In the case of dogs they should be insured against 3rd party damage, check with your home or pet insurance to make sure you are covered. If you need 3rd party insurance you can sign up to ‘The Dogs Trust’ their annual membership subscription includes 3rd party insurance for your dog along with a lot of other benefits.

Q: Is my pet insurance adequate for the lending of my pet?
A: You must check with your individual insurance company to make sure that your pet can be looked after by a friend.

Q: When should I verify another member on the site?
A: Only when you know this person and have a relationship with them.

Q: What do I do if I think a message is inappropriate?
A: You can report the member to us by going onto their profile page and clicking the report button below their profile picture.

Q: How can I be sure that my pet will be safe?
A: We recommend meeting up with the borrower to build up a relationship before lending your pet.

 Q: Do all members have verified accounts?
A: Yes. We use SMS verification as part of our sign up process. All accounts must be verified before viewing members profiles.

Q: Is it safe for me to borrow a pet if I have children?
A:  You should always check with the owner to make sure the Pet is used to children. Meet with the Pet yourself then introduce it to your children.

Q: Can any type of animal be listed?
A: Yes as long as they are legally allowed in the UK and not considered dangerous. If you are unsure please check the following links:

Q: Are my contact details shared with other members?
A: We do not share your contact details with other members. Please check your privacy settings to adjust who can see your information. This can be found under the ‘settings’ button then ‘privacy’. There are more privacy settings available when you edit your profile.

Q: What safety precautions does BorrowPets.com take?
A: We encourage our users to contact each other using our private messaging service so you do not have to give out your email address, phone number or other personal information.
